In journalism today, we discussed the Iran-Contra Affair. 

Basically, the White House went behind Congress’s back to sell weapons to Iranian moderates for a sum of money which was then spent illegally to support Nicaraguan rebels. Oliver North of the National Security Council lied in regards to the White House’s involvement in this scandal, and when it was later revealed that he had deceived to the American people, North maintained that the lie was justified by the lives saved through his decision.
